RC Helicopter flying, RC Cars and RC boating

Made for other people and me to track what I am doing when with my remote controlled units. It started out with helicopters. Hence the name.

If only one of my units is of interest, this unit can be clicked on the right and only posts regarding that unit shows up.

Phantom video :)

Billing Boats Phantom Posted on Jun 28, 2010 20:30:48

Yesterday at the lake I was lucky that one form the club made a video of my Phantom.

//–>At no time in the video, the Phantom is going full speed.

Thanks, Bernhard smiley

Water in the receiver?

Billing Boats Phantom Posted on May 23, 2010 18:53:24

Today I went sailing in the club. It was somewhat windy so there were some waves and I got a little of water into the Phantom. When trying to remove the water I believe a little came into the receiver and perhaps forced it to un-bind from the Tx. That I found out later.

When at the lake I just concluded that the electronics was strange and it most likely was the receiver. Now I am going to put some silicon grease into the receiver to avoid more water coming in.

I had brought my camera along today to do some shootings of my boat on the water. That didn’t really happen smiley

Instead I did a few shots of some of the the other boats. There was a goose that had been RCed smiley

Danish flag for the Phantom

Billing Boats Phantom Posted on May 20, 2010 19:34:53

Earlier this week the Danish flag arrived. I prefer a Danish flag over the American one.
I got it at It seems they got any flag I could ever want for my boats. The flag was accompanied by instructions on how to complete it and there is a video on their homepage regarding the same issue. That’s very nice. Otherwise I would probably have ruined it smiley

I finished it!

Billing Boats Phantom Posted on May 14, 2010 16:42:59

Earlier this week I touched up the water line. The only remaining thing is that I am waiting for a Danish flag to arrive. That completes this build. Here are some pictures I took today with the American flag:

Thanks for looking smiley

Almost done!

Billing Boats Phantom Posted on May 09, 2010 14:33:38

Today I took the Phantom sailing in the club. It really performed well smiley
I tried reversing and the boat seems steerable in reverse. That’s a good thing. Further I programmed the transmitter so full reverse is about 10%. That should make reversing somewhat easier.

The new Radio gear worked perfect. The boat is fast, manoeuvrable and capable of reversing well. So I am very happy with it so far. I am only missing one part. That will be put on later today.

Then I am looking for a Danish flag instead of the American one.

Here are some pictures I shot earlier today:

New radio equipment

Billing Boats Phantom Posted on May 08, 2010 13:56:29

Yesterday the Spektrum DX6i arrived. I bought it along with the 6200 receiver, that should be for full range air, so I am expecting it will work quite good.

I already did a test installation in the Phantom and so far I like it. So far it seems more programmable than the my Futaba Tx so I like it up to now.

At the same time I am replacing the ESC for a Robbe Roxxy 940 ESC. It is lighter and it is possible to disable the brake so I don’t need to brake, before I can reverse. I big advantage smiley

I also decided to stop lacquering and sanding the boat, and then polished it. Then I put on the flag pole and the front piece using stabilit express.

The next thing will be to put strips on the sides. and then there is only a few fitting to fit. Then I am done smiley

Struck by disaster :(

Billing Boats Phantom Posted on May 02, 2010 14:52:49

Today I went sailing with my phantom in the club.

I was naturally very exited to get it running so I had the boat in the water almost immediately. It operated quite well for a short while. Then there was some interference and I lost control smiley

Shortly after the boat came to shore and stopped, so I could retrieve it. When I inspected boat I found that both the rudder and the propeller was missing. smiley

I was prepared that the propeller might come off, but I wasn’t expecting the same thing to happen to the rudder smiley

Luckily I found both the propeller and the rudder in the water quite near the shore so I could retrieve that as well. The only thing I lost was the lock nut.

Now I am soldering the rudder on and securing the propeller with lock-tite.

Otherwise I have been making progress on the Phantom. I think I will only apply one or two layers of lacquer on the sides and I consider the deck done.

I got the Tamiya polishing compound earlier this week. That really made the Phantom shine smiley

Besides that I am getting a 2.4 GHz system now! Radio interference and fast boats is a really bad combo!

The Phantom has been named :)

Billing Boats Phantom Posted on Apr 07, 2010 16:53:11

A few days ago I decided to focus on finishing the Phantom. To do that I need to do some sanding and some polishing and I would like the name of the ship to be embedded in the varnish, so I had to name the ship before finishing it smiley

Just using the supplied decal seemed too boring, so I had to do something. The name of the ship was changed to “Phantom Surreal”, combining my favourite art direction with this boat and at the same time refers to the figures smiley

Currently I have been working on polishing the deck. Next will be to get the sides done. To get it perfect I am looking for some finishing polishing compound.

Here is a few pictures:
